SWEARS IN NEW OFFICERS
Bowling Green, KY -- Two new recruits were sworn in as Bowling Green Police Officers Monday, February 4, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the City Commission Chambers. Mayor Elaine Walker administered the Oath to Officer Hugh England and Officer Wade Hughes during the ceremony. Both officers come to the Bowling Green Police Department with prior law enforcement experience.
Hugh England comes to Bowling Green from the Glasgow (Kentucky) Police Department with 17 years law enforcement experience. Officer England returns to the Bowling Green Police Department after serving from 1993-1995. Officer England received the Governor?s DUI Enforcement Award as a Bowling Green Police Officer in 1994 and 1995. England, a native of Monroe County is also a graduate of the Administrative Officer?s Course at the University of Louisville?s Southern Police Institute.
Wade Hughes returns to the Bowling Green Police Department with 4 years of law enforcement experience. Officer Hughes left law enforcement for two years to work in the funeral business. Officer Hughes said he returned to the Bowling Green Police Department because he ?loves working for the community and feels like this is what I?m supposed to do.? Officer Hughes was the 2004 Bowling Green Police Officer of the Year and received the BGPD Lifesaving Medal.
The hiring of these two officers brings the total staffing to 109 sworn officers and 59 civilian employees. The Bowling Green Police Department is currently accepting applications for Police Officer and Communications Dispatcher through this Friday, February 8, 2008.
