BOWLING GREEN RECIEVES CHECKS
Bowling Green, KY ? On Thursday, December 21, 2006, Gary Wygant, representing Novellis Corporation, will present two Cans for Cash checks to the City of Bowling Green totaling $10,000. The check presentation will take place in the lobby of City Hall at 8:30 a.m. Commissioner Mark Alcott will be representing the City.
The City of Bowling Green recently partnered with the Bowling Green Technical College to enter two categories in the national Cans for Cash Competition.
Bowling Green took first place in the Most Cans Collected category as well as Most Innovative Idea. For winning both categories, Bowling Green will receive a total of $10,000 for furthering recycling efforts.
Cans for Cash is a national competition that rewards cities for recycling aluminum beverage cans. Sponsored by the United States Conference of Mayors and Novelis Corporation, the challenge winners will be recognized at the US Conference of Mayors Winter meeting.
The City of Bowling Green collected 78,310 pounds of cans during a two-week period in September. Bowling Green Technical College also used their Drive to a Million recycling program as the most innovative idea which collects aluminum cans in elementary schools.
