CITY INTRODUCES NEW INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITIES LIAISON
BOWLING GREEN, KY - The City of Bowling Green Neighborhood & Community Services Department is pleased to announce a new focus and emphasis in serving Bowling Green's diverse international communities and the hiring of our Community Services Specialist-International Communities Liaison, Leyda Becker. The public is invited to stop in and meet Becker at an introductory open house and reception to be held tomorrow, February 16, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Paul Walker Golf Clubhouse at Covington Woods Park on Covington Street. Attendees will be able to sample foods from four different immigrant-owned or operated Bowling Green restaurants.
A graduate of Warren East High School and WKU, Becker was born in Venezuela and immigrated to the United States at age thirteen with her family. Her previous work experience includes development of a comprehensive language access program for Hope Harbor, along with other marketing and community outreach work in the non-profit sector.
"Leyda's previous work and life experience, along with her warm personality and demeanor, make her an ideal fit for this position," noted Karen Foley, Neighborhood Services Coordinator for the City. "We are excited to have her on board and working in our Neighborhood Services division."
Becker's first day on the job for the City of Bowling Green was January 17. A international communities liaison assignment was previously housed in the Bowling Green Police Department. Becker's position reflects an expansion to include all departments across the City organization.
Becker is bilingual in English and Spanish and can be reached at 270.393.3766 or leyda.becker@bgky.org (mailto:leyda.becker@bgky.org).
